How often should my Hot Water Cylinder be serviced?
We recommend your Cylinder is serviced each year to ensure it continues to run safely and efficiently. A service can also identify issues caused by hard water and scaling before they become a problem. It is also important to have the appliance serviced regularly to ensure the warranty remains valid.

An unvented hot water cylinder is a pressurised system which is fed directly from the cold mains water feed and therefore, can deliver hot water at mains pressure, which is great for improving the performance of your shower and bath. This system is highly recommended for properties with multiple showers and bathrooms. Unvented cylinders don't require a cold water storage tank which is ideal if you're pushed for space as well as offering greater flexibility when siting the cylinder. It can even be sited in the roof space.
The water can either be heated directly via an immersion heater or indirectly via the central heating system.
Unvented hot water cylinders require an expansion vessel to allow for expansion of water in the system as it heats up. Unvented cylinders also come with safety mechanisms such as pressure relief valves and twin thermostats and should be serviced. We would normally service these when we service your boiler.

A vented hot water cylinder is a more traditional approach where there is a cold water storage tank, often in the loft, which supplies water to the cylinder on a gravity system.
The cold water is heated either directly from the immersion heater or indirectly via the boiler.
As they are fairly simple in their construction and operate at lower pressure, vented hot water cylinders tend to be cheaper than unvented and require almost no maintenance.
