It is important to have all your gas appliances checked annually to ensure they are safe. Regular servicing will also improve the performance and efficiency of your gas appliances which will, in turn, make them more cost-effective to run. A service can also highlight any potential issues you cannot see and may not be aware of until the boiler develops a fault or breaks down altogether.

My boiler isn’t very old – should I still get it serviced?

The answer to this is Yes! Every boiler needs an annual service to ensure the warranty is validated. If the warranty is invalid and the boiler develops a fault, you are likely to be responsible for any potentially costly repairs. Regular servicing will also help to prolong the life of the boiler.

What does a boiler service entail?
As part of our checks, we will;

  • Check for correct ventilation
  • Complete a flue combustion test to ensure the appliance is burning correctly
  • Check the appliance is correctly and safely positioned
  • Check that appliances and controls are operating correctly and are safe to use
  • Check that all safety devices are working
  • Test the rate of gas consumption and the working gas pressure to ensure the appliance is working correctly
  • Check any flue or chimney serving the appliance is safe and installed correctly
  • Visually check the appliance to check for corrosion and leaks

After we have carried out the above checks and we are happy that the appliance has passed, we will issue a Gas Safety Certificate.

Once we have completed our checks and provided a certificate, we also like to survey the heating system FREE OF CHARGE and take note of what type of system is installed and the appliance GC numbers. The reason we do this is that if any appliance develops a fault in future and we can diagnose the problem without a visit to your home, we can  attend with the right part.  This cuts out the need for multiple visits reducing the inconvenience to you and reducing the cost.

We also provide advisories, where necessary, a bit like a car MOT. This may be things that do not need doing immediately but that the customer needs to be aware of and will assist with any future planning.

Does the engineer have to be Gas Safe Registered to service my gas appliances?

Yes most definitely! All gas work must be completed by a Gas Safe Registered engineer. It is illegal for anyone to undertake gas work if they are not on the Register. Illegal gas work can cause gas leaks, fire, explosions and exposure to Carbon Monoxide which can be fatal. You can check if an engineer is qualified by checking the Register on the Gas Safe website or calling them on 0800 408 5500. We are on the Register (Reg No. 302412) and therefore, you can be assured of a safe, professional service.

What is Carbon Monoxide

Carbon Monoxide is a highly poisonous gas produced by the incomplete burning of natural gas and LPG. This can happen when a gas appliance has been fitted incorrectly, badly repaired or poorly maintained. Carbon Monoxide can be deadly. You can’t smell it, taste it or see it.

Physical symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Breathlessness
  • Collapse
  • Loss of consciousness
